Snow, sigh

The small snow shower we were to get was at about 8 inches when Howard got home. I don't want to know how much more we've gotten. It was to stop at 10 AM, I noticed that it was still coming down somewhat later than that.

I am nebbing. Isn't that fun? I still haven't figured out how to do very many things while I neb. I am posting this. But knitting is out. Searching the web (or reading Ravelry) is fine.

I have some lovely pictures on the camera of the snow 2 storms back. They are still on the camera, which makes it a little hard to share. Then there is the issue that it is now _2_ storms back, instead of current. Sorry!

Asthma and knitting

I admire people like Alison who can keep knitting through almost any circumstance that their body puts them. I wish I could.

I've whined before that there is a direct relationship between how my lungs are doing and my knitting. I talked with my doctor about it today, and told him that even though technically I am all right, that my peak flow meter says that I'm in the safe range, there is a level where I am no longer able to knit. In trying to explain it to him, I finally said, "It becomes impossible to do one of those things that helps define me." I don't know what he thought of me when I said it, but after thinking about it, he suggested that I do another pred burst, then stay on pred until next month, where we will evaluate how I am doing again.

Even though I don't like being on pred, it is a relief for him to hear me, and acknowlege that I know my body. It was also interesting looking at 3 months of peak flow charts, because there was a steady slow decline in my peak flow which also reflects my knitting life -- steady decline.

So, today was a good day. AND I was able to knit the heel flap on that second sock while waiting for the doctor. Which means I am feeling better too. Luckily, just as I realized that I didn't remember what I'd done to turn the heel on the first sock, the doc walked in. Rescued! I really must pull out my notes and finish the heel, so I can get on to the foot! Pictures soon.

Still struggling

I'm still wheezing away, the doctor doubled my prednisone yesterday to 120 mg a day for 3 days, then start tapering again. I still slowly sink into the yellow (trouble) zone about every 4-5 hours. This is NOT fun. I will slog on through, but it has stopped my exercising. I tried, it seems to make the situation worse.

We were due for new cell phones on our plan, and they arrived yesterday. Serena's was popped aboard UPS, Mom's is all ready to go (phone book on it and all settings done except activation), I'll wait until Monday and send hers off. That way she can still talk on the phone all weekend. Last night I spent over an hour on the phone with tech support, it sounds as if we have a bad batch of phones -- they work for calling, but can't do web updates. I am going to wait until Serena has a chance to receive her phone, activate it, and find out if hers has the same problem. If so, they are going to replace 3 phones, but not Mom's. Mom isn't going to do web updates anyway. I am going to make them send Serena's to HER, instead of sending it here, and making me pay shipping to her place. I am not amused. That was a LONG time on the phone with them, to not the best results.

Speaking of customer service, at least in a roundabout way, remember the sock yarn that didn't match? The company sent 2 replacement skeins (even though I bought 4 originally -- they said that this way I'd have enough for a pair of socks that matched.) When the package came, much to my chagrin I found the same problem with THOSE two skeins, one was muted and one was bright. Sigh. So I have 3 skeins that are muted and 3 skeins that are bright. Neither set is enough for a pair of knee socks. I called to express my opinion, and was told that is normal variation in a variegated yarn. I don't think so. For heaven's sake, muted to bright is NOT normal variegation. If one entire skein is muted, the others in the dye lot should be as well. If the entire skein is bright, they ALL should be. I have pretty much sworn off buying sock yarn from that company. Too bad, that used to be quite a reputable place.

Freudian Slip?

The doc told me yesterday that I also had “acute exacerbated bronchitis” which I thought was a funny name. Of course, when I wrote the kids about it via text message, I wrote it “acute exasperated bronchitis.” How is THAT for a Freudian slip! LOL

Asthma

I gave up and called the pulmo's office (as we had agreed I would) to let his office know I am in the midst of asthma problems and I would start pred. Once again his office insisted that I should drive the 90 minute round trip to go to the office, pay the fee, and see thePA. I was upset. Howard suggested that I call my GP's office to see if I could get in. I did, and had the appointment this afternoon. I'm back on pred and also an antibiotic, just in case, because I've been fighting this for 4 days.

No exercise today, I didn't feel up to it. So far, the prednisone has not caused an energy burst either. I'd thought that perhaps it would, in which case I'd work out. Oh well.

Maybe I'll be able to knit again soon!

Phooey

You know, one of these days my brain is actually going to start putting 2 and 2 together to make 4! I know that when I have trouble knitting, I should check my breathing levels for my asthma. But, when it happens, I can't put the pieces together enough to check. So, today I'd hoped to get to the toe of one of Margaret's socks. The gusset is finished with that one, and I'm well on the way to the toe. Just no interest in knitting today. Didn't think about it, just kind of hazed through the day.

Serena and I went to the bakery today -- it is a family tradition here. Mom, Dad, my sister and Serena all go when in town. Now that they've left for warmer climes, Serena goes by herself. So we went today. Before we got to the bakery, we stopped off and started laundry at the laundromat. Serena has a dryer, not a washer. She usually uses the one at Mom and Dad's place, but it is apartment size, and we had a lot of laundry to do. So, we started 3 oversized washers and then went to the bakery. After lots of fun talking with Rebecca, one of the owners, 2 meringues and a Danish, we picked up the laundry and brought it home. Took most of the rest of the afternoon to get it all dried. The cats, of course, thought the wet clothes were appalling, but the warm clothes fresh OUT of the dryer were wonderful! Did you hear the MINE again?

Just about bedtime, I commented that I'd not felt like knitting all day, even though I'd carried the socks around with me. Serena made the "duh" statement, "Have you checked your peak flow?" Yup, I should have done it. I nebbed too. Somehow, I haven't been able to hardwire my brain that those two go together. It is a proven fact in my life, if I don't feel like knitting, something is wrong. Serena knows it, Howard knows it, Dianne (my knit buddy) knows it. I think Nathan and Kim know it. Why can't I figure that out when I need to?
